It’s been too long since my last entry. The last week and a bit has been rather chaotic so I haven’t had a chance to sit down at my computer and do some typing. I’ve been reading a bit about the raw food diet. With so many health benefits such as fewer illnesses, clear skin, more energy, weight loss, and even reversing diabetes it seemed like something I should give a try. I thought to start I would try it as a detox. I want to make sure I do it long enough to notice some benefits but not so long that I start to loose my mind. Here’s what I found:
- 3 days will help me eliminate toxins from my body and cleanse my blood.
- 5 days starts healing and rebuilding my immune system.
- 10 days will help prevent disease by reversing damage from acidic toxins in cooked and processed foods, pesticide residues, prescription drug residues, volatile organic chemicals and other acidic toxins.
I thought I would start with three days, see how I’m feeling at that point, and then decide if I’d like to go longer. I am allowing myself one Vega protein shake each day as I need to keep my protein consumption up. I’ve also cut out coffee and replaced it with green tea. I went from drinking 2-3 cups of coffee each day to 3 cups of green tea and so far no headaches. I’m only on day one but I’m enjoying it quite a bit. I wasn’t sure how my energy levels would be after the first day but I had enough energy after a full day at work to spend 40min peddling on my road bike.
For dinner tonight I had a Spinach Harvest Salad which was so yummy and much more filling then I expected. Here’s what was in it:
Ingredients:
baby spinach
baby cucumbers
cellery
sweet red, orange, and yellow peppers
raw asperagus
shredded carrot
Dressing:
1 avocado
juice from 1 lime
generous handful of fresh cilantro (use less or more to taste)
cold water, about 1/4 cup (use less or more depending on desired consistency)
2 tsp red wine vinegar
salt to taste
Blend avocado, lime juice, cilantro, water, vinegar, and salt in a food processor until smooth. Drizzle dressing on salad and enjoy.
